Thomas Dukes, LMHC

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas Dukes brings a wide cultural perspective to his work in mental health. He entered the field in 1996 at a Medicaid-based dual diagnosis treatment center that treated primary psychiatric concerns alongside substance use disorders, and his rapport with patients there led staff to encourage formal training in counseling. While working full time across a variety of settings, he began graduate study in 1998 to deepen his clinical skills and exposure to diverse treatment approaches.

Over the early years of his career he worked in several county- and community-based programs, including the Palm Beach County psychiatric crisis stabilization unit, the Drug Abuse Foundation in Delray Beach, and a juvenile intervention facility in Broward County. After graduating in 2000 and activating his license, he served as a therapist at the Renaissance Institute in Boca Raton. In the months following 9/11/2001 he launched a private psychotherapy practice that later expanded to provide services to employee assistance programs, sober living residences, and treatment facilities.

In December 2010 he relocated to western North Carolina and later spent ten years as a clinical supervisor at Pavillon in Mill Spring, NC, a role he held until November 2020. He continues to live in North Carolina and maintains active licenses in Florida and North Carolina - LMHC, which stands for Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and LCAS, which stands for Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. Now semi-retired, he continues to offer guidance and support to a broad and varied patient demographic and is known for being approachable and easy to connect with.
