About Neal
His professional formation includes training in the United States, China and India. In 1986 he was part of the first bodywork team invited to a teaching hospital in China to study Tuina, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine and therapeutic massage, and in 1991 he traveled to India to study with meditation teacher H.W.L. Poonja (Papaji). For nearly 40 years Neal has provided Reiki therapy and taught Reiki for almost 30 years as part of his integrative approach to wellbeing.
Neal is the author of Pocket Stress Manager & Labyrinth Guide and the relaxation CD Exit The Storm, and his holistic work has appeared on national television outlets such as WTTW, Fox, NBC and the Discovery Channel, as well as in magazines including Better Homes & Gardens, New Age Magazine and Utne Reader. He originated the Earth-Wisdom Labyrinth in Elgin, Illinois in 1997 and has consulted on the design of public, traveling and finger labyrinths, including his patented Intuipath® double finger labyrinth. He is a founding member of The International Labyrinth Society and led labyrinth workshops across the country for nearly four decades.
In private practice Neal works with a wide range of concerns - from anxiety, depression and relationship challenges to grief, trauma, caregiving stress, chronic illness and LGBTQ+ issues - and integrates relaxation and meditation training, the Emotional Freedom Technique, Graphotherapy and other targeted practices. He has also led a four-year national research study on the behavioral effects of the Intuipath® design with children and adolescents with ADHD. Based in Illinois and accepting international clients, Neal brings a blend of clinical expertise and holistic modalities to support clients facing life changes and health-related challenges. Outside of counseling he is a Certified Pickleball Coach and has taught players to play smarter, not harder, for the past 11 years.
Integrative therapeutic approaches for online care
Neal Harris draws on Attachment-Based Therapy to explore how early and current relationship patterns shape emotions and connection. This gentle approach helps clients understand attachment needs and work toward more secure, satisfying relationships and improved emotional regulation. He also uses Client-Centered Therapy, offering a supportive, nonjudgmental space where the therapist follows the client’s pace and priorities. This approach emphasizes empathy and collaboration and is useful for building self-esteem, processing life changes and strengthening decision-making.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is another tool in his practice, focused on identifying unhelpful thought patterns and developing practical skills to manage anxiety, stress and mood concerns. CBT provides concrete strategies that many people find helpful alongside more exploratory or somatic work.
Finding the right mix of approaches is part of the therapeutic process. Neal works collaboratively with each person to identify which methods best match their needs, goals and preferences, and he adjusts the plan as progress unfolds.
Online sessions by video, phone, live chat or text-based messaging offer flexibility for busy schedules, mobility limits or geographic distance. These options allow licensed professionals like Neal to provide consistent, timely support while making it easier for clients to fit therapy into daily life and maintain ongoing care.
